DASHing Words in Motion Contest & Poet Laureate Search Now Accepting Submissions

December 12, 2021

DASHing Words in Motion is back and open for entries! Submit your poems online by 5 p.m. on Friday, January 14, 2022. The contest is a collaborative effort between the City’s Office of the Arts and DASH to promote appreciation of literature and poetry within the Alexandria community ahead of National Poetry Month in April. The winning poems will be displayed onboard DASH buses to help celebrate National Poetry Month.

Entries must be submitted by the deadline to be considered for the contest. Poets may submit more than one poem, but must live, work or study in Alexandria. For more information about the contest, eligibility and submission requirements, click here.

The City is also searching for a new Poet Laureate. The Poet Laureate helps promote appreciation of poetry as an artform, as well as the reading and writing of literature and literacy through poetry. The Poet Laureate will serve a 3-year term and receive an annual honorarium. Applications must be submitted by Monday, January 10 for full consideration.
