ALEXANDRIA TRANSIT COMPANY AND ATU LOCAL REACH TENTATIVE AGREEMENT

For Immediate Release: May 20, 2019

Alexandria, VA – The Alexandria Transit Company (DASH) and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 689 (ATU Local) jointly announce the parties have reached a tentative agreement for a contract representing the employees of Transit Management of Alexandria.

As a result of the diligent members of DASH and the ATU Local negotiation teams, a tentative contract now goes to the union membership for a vote of approval on Wednesday. The agreement includes improvements in wages, benefits and working conditions for DASH bus operators and includes offers of return to work for two terminated employees.

“…Thank you for the fair, forbearing and professional way that [DASH] conducted the negotiation process…this significant agreement makes me very proud to be an employee of DASH,” said Didier Balagizi, Alexandria Transit Company Bus Operator and ATU Local Member. “I look forward to a long and rewarding career with DASH, and I am very thankful for the work and commitment that has made that future possible.”

“A special thanks to all those who sacrificed countless hours working on this important project. It is because of their hard work and dedication that we have reached this accomplishment,” said Josh Baker, Alexandria Transit Company CEO and General Manager.

“The ATU Local and DASH are proud to have worked collectively with such a committed group of people, and we hope to continue our productive partnership going forward,” said Raymond Jackson, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 689 President.

Both DASH and the ATU Local are confident that this agreement will facilitate advantageous, ongoing labor relations. All parties will now focus on delivering the best transportation services to the Alexandria Community.
